lyrics

one of these days i'm going to california on a bus
climb the highest building yelling
"you are screwing it up for the rest of us"
and one of these days i'll fly a plane to paradise and say
"i'm sorry to barge in like this,
but i'll be taking all your plans and babes
one of these days i'm gonna take a sledge hammer to my job
just let it loose on everything around
and leave a task list for my boss
number one you'll need to clean that up,
number two tuck in your vest
and number 3 pull that hammer out your ass
and never tell me what to do again

well that's freedom crying out
tell me what you want to hear and i'll belt it out somehow

one of these days will change the view and what we'll see is bliss
we’ll drink from chocolate milk rivers
and willy wonka will be the president
now, one of these days i'll tell you everything i'm gonna do
then i won't spend the day just thinking about it,
i'll prove my words to you

here's something worth a smile
tell me what you want to hear, and i'll belt it out somehow

i took the long way home just to hear my favorite song

one of these days i'll meet christina ricci on the streets
i won't need to say a word
because she's seen me on tv
she'll say "hey i'm such a fan of yours, would you like to have a drink?" then i'll puke all over myself
and she'll never speak to me again

here's something worth a smile
tell me what you want to hear and i'll belt it out somehow
here's something worth a smile
tell me what you want to hear and i'll belt it out somehow

Thomas Hatton - Drums
Arthur Hatton - Bass

***Arthur and Thomas Hatton are brothers and have always been two of my favorite musicians. Their whole family is a bunch of talented people who love playing music. I'm not exaggerating when I say that dinner at their house was pretty much guaranteed to break out in song with like 6 part harmony. So, Arthur was recording an album of his own in a studio in the back rooms of a coffee shop in Richmond, KY. Thomas and I were there recording some things for his album, which was so cool because none of us had ever been in a real recording studio before (it had a red light and everything!). With the meter running on Arthur's dime, he said, "Let's record one of your songs." It was VERY generous, but the three of us had never played one of my songs. To my surprise, Arthur said he and Thomas had been playing "One of These Days," so, as I recall, we played through it once, then recorded it the second time. Then, I went in a vocal booth and did one take of the vocals. The vocals didn't come out great, but I love having this version of the song since it was our first time in a studio. Thank you, Arthur and Thomas AND the whole Hatton clan, for some good memories!
